Marwal head bust.

The only usefull information I’ve found on Marwal Inc:

“Marwal Industries Inc. created plaster figures and busts in Miami from around the 1940s to the 1960s. They are collectibles and each can be seen selling on the Internet anywhere from $50 to $150.”

” Marwal Industries was a commercial producer of classic reproductions.”

I got my first one when I was doing one of my raids in my grandmothers attic where I found the hawaiian one and even though she is in really, really bad shape she is still my favourite one since I was told my grandfather brought it back home with him from a work trip to the states. img_0926 These two my mom got me at ebay and picked them up during a trip to the states. img_0924 img_0925 img_0923 I also had this one, but she broke on the way home from the states. And with that my heart also broke a little. I am currently working on getting my hands on another one. She is by far the most beautiful one. 297_womensheadsculpturebust-006 This here is another one I’ve only seen once, the other ones I’ve seen a few times here and there. 0153_12

  1. In the 60’s I worked freelance for Marwal & sculpted the figures you have. If you want to talk to me via e-mail I’d be happy to tell you more & if I can find it I probably have a catalog someplace around aswell as some of the other pieces I did. Blossom

    • Hi Blossom,
I was doing research on a Marwal piece that I have and found your comment in my search. I hope that you don’t mind me writing to you. I’m trying to obtain information about a Marwal plaster sculpture of probably a Roman goddess lying on a lounge. Above the Marwal inscription, it reads ‘M. Lucchesi 1968’. It’s a large heavy piece, and really quite lovely. I have two emails: marc.invergo@uky.edu and invergo@roadrunner.com. It would be great if you could write to both. Thanks, Marc

    • Blossom,
I’d love to hear more about when and where you did work for Marwal. I have the bust you created of the Geisha Girl with the fan. Were they mass produced and were they sold through retail channels? I’n not sure how my grandmom aquired this piece. Thanks for any info that you can give me on this item. Todd King

    • Hi Blossom~

I am looking for information on a Marwal Tiger Statue that was given to me as a child by my Aunt. It was a family treasure, my siblings and I fought over who the tiger belonged to and if you weren’t watching they would swipe it from your house. Unfortunately a friend on mine decided to play along with the game, and while in her possession the tiger was broken, and discarded. It has left a huge empty space in our lives without “Sam”. We grew up in the city and were not allowed to have pets…Sam the tiger was the closest thing we had.
Do you know where I could get another? An auction site? An antique store?

      Thanks
      Stephanie

Sorry to bother you. You are probabaly getting all kind of question about
Marwal pieces. I purchased an unsigned but marked piece called ‘The Embrace’ and can’t find any info. How would I find out the worth, as I want to donate it to a silent auction & am supposed to quote the worth of it. Also,
it would be nice to find out the sculptor. Similar pieces are more rough. This is smooth, mostly goldtone, with a little green & some dust. Any info would be appreciated. It a coule kissing with a stump us the left leg of the
man about to his knee. It is beautiful. Thank you for any help. Loretta H

  8. Ashley Faulk

I just picked up the “most beautiful of all” with the scarf wrap at a thrift store today for 5.99. An amazing piece I must say, my artistic eye told me she didn’t belong there.

  9. Jenny Schossow

I have the Marwal bust of the Woman with a cream colored scarf along with the Hawaiian boy and girl. The three pieces were purchased together by my mother, but I’m not sure where or when she purchased them, but I know they have been in the family for many years. (She is deceased so I can’t ask her). They are in mint condition and have been pampered for all these years, usually cased in a hutch or on top of one and rarely handled. Do you know approximately what they are worth??

  10. Scott Grenier

  13. Hello, I just purchased a Hawaiian woman, and a little asian/hawaiian boy from a flea market. They have a few little chips here and there, but they are in really good shape. Does anyone suggest that I touch up the chips that they do have? Or is it best to leave them a lone?

    Thank you!!

  15. I have a large heavy all black bust of Nefertiti that is marked Marwa ind inc and I would like to know about it. Would this be worth any money? Thank you my email is ndamico47@aol.com, Nicole

  16. I also have the asian woman holding a fan, complete with gorgeous hair and flower piece. To accompany her, I have another asian girl similar to the one pictured second here, but prettier. She’s my favorite. My mother had the middle eastern woman with shroud wrapped around the head, pictured fifth, as well as the woman pictured third. I phoned her tonight to see if she still had them somewhere. She said she thought she remembered selling them at a garage sale. So sad. I’m old enough now at 28 to appreciate these beauties. I simply love mine. I begged my grandmother for them years ago and she gave them to me as a gift. They sit on my counter and couldn’t look more beautiful. I’m very protective of them, and clean them properly and regularly. I’d love to start collecting these. Thank you Blossom for your amazing creations. They’re more than works of art. To me, they’re simply priceless.

  25. My Dad used to manage the factory in Brooklyn where the busts and reproductions of other sculptures were produced. I had no idea they were collector’s items, my home in Brooklyn was filled with them. But in the 70’s my Dad moved to Miami where the business relocated. Soon after moving my Dad left Marwal and became a mail carrier. Unfortunately, my Dad passed away on May 5, 2012, and one of the last things he said to me was connected to Marcel Walder, the owner of Marwal. Any additional info about Marwal would be appreciated.

  30. Hi. I know these comments are a few years old, I think I tried before too, but does anyone here have a contact for Blossom (the email mentioned), or Blossom yourself, if you see this could you get in touch? I really really just want to see whatever form of master catalogue or even list of busts Marwal made. I’m in Toronto ON and I have 14 of them but I’m down to the real toughies (the African, Dutch, Flamenco and Geisha busts). Or are there even MORE?! Thanks a lot. What an enduring body of work!

  35. Hi. 3 years later and I STILL can’t find any more info on Marwal as a company or catalogue, though I’m still collecting (just scored the beige Senorita with the veil for a steal). The Dutch girl and Geisha are about the only crucial ones still on my hit list, but if anyone sees this, let me/us know if you know anywhere static to find more info out. Blossom, are you still out there?

  36. Ok, my annual hunt for more Marwal info goes on. I check back here once in a while but it doesn’t look like anyone had success following up with Blossom, did they? I’m down to only a few I don’t have, and I’d love as I’m sure a bunch of us would, to know more about Blossom or the overall company, or if there was ever any catalogue. Thanks! I can share pics of my collection if anyone wants.
